Selecting Voith Schneider Propulsion (VSP) will allow installation vessels to operate in weather conditions that would delay other vessels; extending this "Weather Window" will directly impact on the commercial return.  The VSP is able to provide roll stabilisation enhancing the overall vessel stability.  This advantage is due to the unique ability to rapidly vector the thrust.  Additionally, the rapid thrust vectoring also impacts on the DP capability giving lower fuel costs on station, fewer emissions and additionally less wear on the thrusters and hence longer life.  The high efficiency of the VSP means that the vessel will use less fuel through its lifetime and thus can claim lower emissions.

The VSP operates at a much slower rotational speed and has a higher moment of inertia , hence reducing the gear loading and eliminating failures in the drive train due to tooth fatigue.  This is a significant advantage for a vessel that could operate with thrusters partially submerged, unlike azimuth units that need to be fully submerged to operate within the guarantee conditions.  The slower rotation and greater swept area of the propeller results in lower wash and hence less danger of scour or uncovering cables.

Health Check -  To ensure best efficiency, Voith Turbo can perform a "health check" on the propellers.  This ensures that the optimum level of service is defined on the basis of a "real-time in service" technical examination.  As a result, service costs are reduced to a minimum, a planned spares schedule can be prepared and you benefit from the long service life of Voith products.
